OLEAN — Twenty area employers will be recruiting for current job openings at a Job Fair Thursday, May 2, sponsored by the Cattaraugus-Allegany Workforce Development Board and the City of Olean.

The Job Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the First National Building, 101 N. Union St., the former Manny Hanny Building, said Jason Miller, Workforce Development Board director.

“We have 20 local employers that will be attending, all with open positions,” Miller said. “We have been doing this Job Fair twice a year for the past three years in partnership with the City of Olean. The idea came about after Siemens announced that they were closing back in 2021.”

The City of Olean and Workforce Investment Board had previously held the Job Fair in the William O. Smith Recreation Center in War Vets Park.

The decision was made to move to the First National Building this year to showcase a successful downtown Olean development and signify that the city is growing and changing, Miller said.

“We had done one last summer in the Farmer’s Market Pavilion in Lincoln Park,” he said. “We have been trying to make them more centrally located to attract more walk-in traffic. We are very pleased that this spring event will be held in the First National building.”

Among the employers scheduled to be at the Job Fair are: Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES, Cutco Corporation, Great Lakes Cheese, Beacon Light, FCI McKean Bureau of Prisons, Dresser Utility Solutions, Salamanca Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Cattaraugus County Corrections, The Pines Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Laborers Local 621, Northstar, JCC Workforce Development and Community Bank.

The Job Fair is open to the public, Miller said. This is an opportunity to get to know area companies to help jump-start a career.
